Requirements on raw materials for biomass pellets
Raw material particle size shall be reduced to below the diameter of finished biomass pellets.
For example, raw materials need to be controlled under 8 mm for φ8 mm pellets,
and fibrous texture is preferred to facilitate compaction in the pellet machine.
Optimal raw material moisture content ranges from 15% to 18%;
drying treatment may be needed accordingly to meet the feeding standard of the pellet machine.
Freshly produced biomass pellets discharged from the pellet machine have a temperature of 50–80°C.
Direct bagging causes excessive temperature inside packaging bags,
resulting in insufficient stabilization of pellet hardness, moisture absorption and eventual pellet breakage.
Therefore, pellets must be cooled prior to packaging.
