The raw material is continuously extruded from the ring die orifice and cut into various required pellet lengths by a cutting blade whose distance between the blade and the outer wall of the ring die is adjustable. When the pellet mill's cutter wears down, the rod-shaped material exiting the ring die orifice is broken rather than cut, resulting in pellets with rough ends and a mostly pasty consistency. This leads to increased powder content in the formed pellets and a decrease in pellet quality.
