What factors affect pellet hardness in pellet mills? (2)

3. The moisture content of the raw materials is generally required to be between 13% and 18%. Of course, this value is not absolute and varies depending on the raw material. Different raw materials have different properties and fiber structures, which also lead to different molding difficulties. One of the main reasons for insufficient pellet hardness is excessive moisture in the raw materials or high ambient humidity. Excessively wet raw materials can lead to excessive air inside the pellets, making them less compact. Adjustments should be made based on factors such as the raw material's moisture content and weather changes.

4. Technical parameters such as the pellet machine's ring die aperture and compression ratio affect pellet hardness. Pellets pressed using ring dies with the same aperture but different compression ratios experience a significant increase in hardness as the compression ratio increases. A low compression ratio results in low pellet density, resulting in poor pellet formation or a high rate of pulverization, which compromises pellet quality and stability. A high compression ratio results in excessively dense pellets, resulting in a dark, hard pellet, which increases the pellet mill's energy consumption and reduces production efficiency.
